NEW YORK CITY

 

"One can't paint New York City as it is, but rather, as it is felt."

 

New York City is energy. Cars, cabs, people, lights, buses, sirens. It's sensory overload as the noise and movement surround you. And at times, it flows through you like an electric shock.

 

A melting pot of people passes by, and cultures crisscross at intersections. Skyscrapers stretch impossibly skyward. There's nothing quiet or shy or even remotely modest about this city. It screams 'look at me' from every direction. And you do. You can't help yourself.

 

From high above, it's difficult not to get a head rush the moment your eyes try to make sense of its scale. And though you are hundreds of feet up, your heart still pounds to the rhythm of the streets below.

In the moments when the night begins to absorb the light of day and darkness pulls itself over the rooftops, you think that perhaps calmness may finally prevail. But the city refuses to sleep, and one light after another illuminates the sky and flickers like a yard full of fireflies. Everything gets louder and brighter and much more crowded. Steam rises from the streets, along with a cacophony of smells from the food carts and restaurants on every corner and street.

 

This city doesn't stop for anyone. Not hurricanes. Or earthquakes. Not even for terrorists. But through my camera, I could freeze it and capture some fantastic moments.

 

And all in a New York minute.
