OCEAN RETREATS

 

"The waves of the sea help me get back to me."

 

I first fell in love with the ocean during a trip to the Outer Banks. That story began with water and sand and their eternal dance with the prevailing northeast Atlantic winds. This is a place of beauty and peace where ocean and sound are parted by ribbon-thin barrier islands that bask under the endless blue Carolina sky. 

 

The islands follow the upper coast of North Carolina and arch eastward like a bent elbow, opening up nearly 30 miles of water between themselves and the mainland. The water dominates the scenery, continuously reshaping the shoreline.

 

No other landscape reveals the beauty of the golden sea at sunrise or the fiery sound at day's end. Nothing else captures every nuance of weather or tide or so perfectly reflects the color of light.

 

My relationship with the ocean has continued for many years since with trips to South Carolina, Georgia, New Hampshire, Maine, and my home away from home ... Florida. Sanibel & Captiva, Fort Myers, Tampa, Siesta Key, Ponte Vedra, Palm Coast, St. Augustine, and Flagler Beach.
